Houston, TX – Temporary Vinyl for Franchise in the Heights | Franchise Sign News

BY: Patti & Jim Snyder, Front Row Signs

You purchased your new franchise and are excited for your new adventure. You’ve signed the lease, and ready for the build out. While you are waiting for everything to come into place, why not have some signs to get prospective customers excited about your up-coming location? Temporary window and door graphics grab attention . You can showcase your top products, services or menu items with bold enticing images. Check out what we did for Clean Juice, a new franchise location within the Heights area of Houston.

All the permits needed can be a huge hassle and very time consuming when opening a storefront. This was definitely the case for our client, Clean Juice. They not only had to deal with all the typical city ordinances for permitting but they were also within a historic district which brought additional filings. While waiting for the historic district to approve the sign proposals, all other city sign permits were on hold. The historic district regulations for what is allowed is very stringent. Any little detail left out or if we included an item that was not allowed, the permit could be rejected and we are back to square one. There is much that must be included when producing paperwork submitting to the permitting office. While we are in a hurry up and wait situation with permits, the client took advantage of utilizing all their window space to begin advertising their upcoming store. Free advertising space! Win-win!

First step was to do the site survey. We took measurements and images of the windows where the temporary graphics would be installed. The franchise branding came from corporate. All the signs and graphics were produced out of state and sent directly to us for the installation. Once corporate received the measurements from us, they produced the graphics and shipped them to us. We removed each graphic, checked the sizing and labeled each according to it’s position on the layout. We then packaged them for transit in installation order left to right, top to bottom for each section based on the layout. This way, once our installers arrived at the site, the graphics were organized for ease of install.

On the day of the install, our 3 installers set up first with cleaning each window. This was a brand new development center so there was much construction happening all around the install area making it hazardous and pretty dirty. The windows were very filthy but ample cleaning is imperative for good adhesion of the vinyl so we took the time to clean and alcohol each window thoroughly. Since it was temporary vinyl, corporate sent a very inexpensive vinyl option without laminate. Less expensive products can be inferior to their higher priced counterparts but it shows in the quality of the material-bubbles are more likely, the material can be very thin and hard to manipulate, easy to tear or stretch and the list goes on. And since we didnt print anything in our shop, any problems that arose during installation that destroyed any of the graphics, left us with no way to reprint quickly. Our installers took their time and installed everything well and the client was very pleased.

Once the permanent signs were ready, and the permits were approved, we returned to the location to remove the temporary vinyl, clean and prep the windows for the permanent signage. The temporary graphics were a huge success! They created lots of buzz for the upcoming juicing store. Opening day was a big affair with lots of new customers ready to enjoy the delicious juices in a beautiful indoor or outdoor setting.

Opening a storefront location? Consider utilizing your window space for temporary signs to gather excitement for your products or services. The short term benefits outweigh the costs.
