One of the industries that was hit hard during the current Pandemic was athletic organizations and Gyms. Our client had his Crossfit gym, Crossfit Hippo off Park Row in Houston for many years. Unfortunately, due to extensive closing due to state orders, the gym had to close its doors for good. That didnt stop George Giles III. His passion for helping other achieve their fitness goals propelled him to think outside the box. He purchased a 52′ travel trailer, and set it up to be a mobile gym! Fantastic idea!
Now that George had his gym on wheels, Hippo Fitness Lab, he needed some attention grabbing graphics to promote his new venture and additionally some of his product sponsors. Front Row Signs was his first and only phone call. First steps was to decide on the design. This was literally a huge blank canvas. There were many graphic options but we discussed with the owner to begin with the most important factors he wanted to convey as he drove around town.
Next, we had to consider the type of materials to use. The owner wanted to be able to have the vinyl removed if he would sell the trailer in the future without damaging the trailer. As part of the trailers company branding, there was already stripes and verbiage on the trailer so we had to keep that in tact when we removed the vinyl in the next few years if needed. We chose Arlon SLX cast vinyl with the matching 3220 gloss laminate. This high performance vinyl was perfect to suit the needs of the owner.
Once we had the design proof approved, we were ready to print. We use HP UV ink with our HP 360 latex printer which offers unparalleled quality in digital printing. The Arlon media has a life expectancy of up to 7 years and even more with the laminate. The laminate not only protects the digital print but also offers some thickness to the thin vinyl making it easier to install. Once we print the graphics, we allow some time to let the media outgas before laminating. This reduces the chance of outgassing after the laminate has bonded with the vinyl. If it does, it can cause bubbles that are hard to pop as they are trapped behind the laminate and cannot escape.
Before we are ready to install, the vehicle must be very clean with no waxes or residue left behind as this can cause installation issues. Since the trailer was so large, we helped the customer by installing at his residence where the trailer was located. This saved him a bunch of time and didnt even have to leave his home!
