When a client brings an idea to us, it can sometimes be a long road before arriving at the end result. We are always available to troubleshoot, evaluate and offer solutions that will fit our clients budget and needs. Ideas and job scope can also change after the project is underway so we have to be flexible and quickly update jobs with accuracy. Our quality control system is in place to ensure the job is progressing on time and correctly. No one is perfect, but with ample systems in place, we strive to catch issues before they head out the door. This attention to detail is what we do every day with every job, big or small. Our latest project with Fresh Cafe Designs of Richmond, TX, was no different.
Attention to Detail
With a large scope like this project, attention to detail with quality control checks along the way were important to the projects success. Along with our client, we provided all types of signage, painting and digital wall graphics to round out this complete makeover for the cafeteria serving line and seating hall. After discussing the scope with our client so we could decide our best course of action, we put steps in place to ensure we would stay on track. By mapping out the steps and approximate time to perform each, we can accurately predict, within reason, the amount of time to complete the job. This allows us to ensure we can meet any deadlines.
Choosing the Right Materials
To choose the material that would serve the job scope best, we considered cost, weight, ability to accept vinyl and paint, and ease of installation. Based on these parameters, we chose 1/8″ white PVC, 3mm ACM and 1/4″ clear acrylic. Some materials were hand cut while others were routed since they needed more detail. The vinyl and laminate choices were based on price, aesthetic, and ease of install. We chose matte laminate instead of gloss based on the look the client wanted to achieve. We also chose a thicker option for the clear acrylic as it was the focal point for the serving line to offer a dimensional and dynamic look. The color scheme was chosen and provided by the client for a bold and bright finish. It really brought the area to life.
Application Methods
By trying different application methods, you can achieve a new look with less effort. With basic principles of design, by layering, and utilizing the back and front of the acrylic, we presented cost effective solutions. We used Arlon DPF 5200 for the etched/frosted vinyl on one side of the acrylic then applied the digital print to the other side for a soft layered look. Each PVC letter or element was route cut. This added dimension to the letters that a direct print install would not have allowed. We then plotted each letter and shape on our Graphtec, weeded out the extra material around it and hand cut each letter before applying to the PVC. The result was a mixture of textures, colors and layers that transformed the space.
