The West Houston area is booming! With so much new construction, each development must distinguish itself from the others. Creating a sign that can showcase the upcoming shopping center, strip mall, grocery store, you name it! can offer a glimpse of what is to come. Potential customers can get excited about the stores that are coming soon. Plus, the new development sign can increase excitement and spread the word faster than wildfire. All of this from just a simple construction sign? If it’s done right, you bet! Let’s see what best practices we use everyday for designing signs.

Images Are Not Created Equal

There are differences when utilizing images that are for the web as opposed to print. Web based images can be 72 DPI where print images should be at least 300m DPI. If an image looks great on your computer screen, it doesnt ensure that the printed version will have the same quality. How to know if you have a high resolution image? Check the size of it by right clicking and checking in the Properties for the size resolution. Many web based images will show the resolution when you hover your cursor over the image. You can also enlarge it on your computer screen and notice the pixelations as you do so. If you can increase the viewing size by a large percentage of its original form, and not have any pixelations, than it is a good chance that the printed version will be good to go. When in doubt, send the image to your graphic designer. They can tell right away if the image is good enough to print the size you would like.

Sometimes A Low Resolution Image will Work

There can be a time when an image with a lower resolution will suffice. If you need a brochure and have an small headshot image you’d like to include, that should be fine. If you wanted to blow that same image up on a billboard, well that’s a different story.  Everything depends on the end use. We can show you exactly how your image will look once blown up to the size you want. Our software programs allow us great accuracy in this respect.

Graphic Design for Signs

Having a graphic designer is one thing but having a graphic designer that specializes in print and signage is another. Our designer on staff is highly experienced in both the creative process and signage. Allowing the client to meet directly with our designer is part of our process. Showing the customer what their design will look like on their particular sign is imperative. We will not print until the client approves. Offering a design proof is part of our customer service process. Not unusual for sign companies to offer proofs, but we take the time to walk the customer through the process. It is our pleasure to help the client understand each part of the process from design to installation. We appreciate that not all business owners are equipped with sign knowledge. We take pride in our design creations especially when we can help the client’s ideas come to fruition. If you need design help for a project small or large. Give us a call at 832-222-9385
