Insignia Signs recently received a call from Dr. Gallagher with Epion Institute for Spine & Joint Pain – she had just gotten a new space for her practice and needed a new reception sign. We were happy to receive the call and happy to help!
The first step in the process was a site survey. We stopped at her location to take pictures and measurements of the area she had in mind for the sign. The wall was dark blue and was a perfect spot for a reception sign – we suggested a clear acrylic sign with standoffs, which is what Dr. Gallagher had in mind. The one concern she had was that her logo consisted of blue letters and the wall was blue – so we had to brainstorm the best type of acrylic for the blue wall. We had a few options as an alternative to clear: black, white, brushed silver, or an etched glass vinyl acrylic. After seeing a sample of the etched glass vinyl acrylic, Dr. Gallagher decided it’d be perfect for her office.
Insignia Signs offers several different thicknesses of acrylic – we can do 1/8″, 3/16″, 1/4″, 1/2″, 3//4″, or 1″. The most common thickness is 1/8″ thick, it’s the most affordable and always looks great. Rather than charging our customer the HIGH price of an etched glass vinyl acrylic, our production team used our cold laminator to adhere a silver etched glass vinyl onto the 1/8″ thick clear acrylic. The outcome is a beautiful piece of acrylic that is a fourth of the cost of buying a piece of etched glass acrylic.
The next step was to print Dr. Gallagher’s logo, being sure it was royal blue and bright green – laminated with a matte overlaminate, and cut out with our Graphtec plotter. Dr. Gallagher was able to send us a vector version of her logo, so the quality of the print was perfect – it was printed, laminated & contour cut. Our production team then “weeded” out the excess vinyl and “masked it” with transfer tape. The vinyl was now ready to be applied to the acrylic sign. Once the vinyl was applied, we drilled (6) holes in the acrylic which is where the brushed silver standoffs will go. Standoffs are a great way to install acrylic signs because the backs are normally transclucent, and the standoffs give it a clean installation without any tape or silicone.
The sign was then installed, any finger prints wiped off – and VOILA – finished!
