Insignia Signs recently received a request for 100 foamcore signs. Our customer needed these signs asap so it became an immediate priority for us. Production was completely focused on producing 100 foamcores in 3 days and it was a success!
There were (2) sizes of foamcores – 48″x24″ and 52″x36″, 50 single sided of each. The signs are for hotel rooms so since they’re going indoors we were able to use a 3/16″ foamcore material. The foamcore cuts nicely so these didn’t need framed, and has a little more dimensions than our PVC materails. The foamcore sheets come in 4’x8′ so we applied three 48″x24″ prints per 4’x8′ sheet and one 56″x36″ per 4’x8′ sheet. To apply the digital prints onto the foamcore we used our laminator. The nice thing about this method (besides being a faster method) is that the pressure on all of the lays was perfect. The rollers laid the vinyl perfectly onto the foamcore. Once they were applied to the substrate we just had to cut them out and they were all finished! Every sign required 4 cuts so that was a total of 400 cuts in two and a half days!
We printed the graphics on our HP Latex 310 Printer. The roll of vinyl was 54″ wide so we were able to print the 48″ on the 54″ width and for the other size, the 36″ width. There was some extra space on the vinyl with the 36″ prints since the maximum print width is about 51″, so there’s a process called “nesting” that we use to avoid the waisted vinyl. The amount of space we had available on these is 15″ so anything that we could print, including a job for a different customer, was nested in that 15″. Any way we can save materials we try our best to do that.
Once the signs were completed we bundled them and they were ready for pickup!
