Insignia Signs recently received a request from Eye District by Jo for new signage. They recently moved into an office at Rainbow and Charleston and needed their name on the pylon sign and a sign at their door. Since Las Vegas has so many strip malls, pylon signs are a very important part of getting business exposure. Pylon signs, which are the signs near the street that lists all of the tenants, allows traffic to see the stores that are in the shopping centers. The first step for Eye District by Jo was a site survey to measure the space available and created a proof for them to send their landlord. We always recommend sending signage proofs to landlords to be sure they are okay with layouts, sizes, colors, etc.
We also surveyed the sign near their door. The sign that was in the frame was unique so we’re glad we did a survey. The sign had a visible space of 12″ but was 14″ total, it had a bend in the top and bottom one inch of the sign. It was then screwed into the top and bottom of the frame where the lips in the sign were. It was one double sided aluminum sign, with visible graphics on both sides.
The pylon graphics were printed on our HP Latex Printer and laminated with a UV matte laminate. Many sign stores use a regular laminate rather than UV, but the UV laminate adds 10 years to the life on the vinyl! We offer both gloss and matte UV laminate. For exterior signs like pylon graphics, we recommend matte so the gloss doesn’t create a glare.
The graphics for the double sided aluminum sign were also printed on our HP Latex Printer. We print these using crop marks which are automatically generated by the printer based on the settings in the software, they are in each of the 4 corners of the print. We then laminate the graphic and load it into the Graphtec Plotter. The plotter then reads the 4 crop marks and “contour cuts” the vinyl where it was indicated in the design software.
