Insignia Signs recently received a request from a hairstylist who was in need of interior signage. He already had in mind the material he wanted – a chrome mirror dimensional letter. Insignia offers several types of dimensional letters, but many of them are not suitable for the outdoors in the Las Vegas climate. We were in luck – David’s sign was going inside so we can do any type of letter.
One requirement David had was dimension – he wanted a 1″ thick material with a chrome face so Insignia decided to combine 2 materials to create 1 material. We had a 4’x8′ sheet of black 1″ thick ultraboard and adhered a .040 thick chrome mirror sheet to the top of it with Industrial Strength 3M adhesive. The sheet was then ready to be cut on our CNC Router. The letters were cut out from the 4’x8′ sheet – VESPER SALON.
The next step was to install the letters. Dean uses a paper pattern to install the letters, he first measures the overall size of the signage, the size of the wall, and centers the sign in the space. The nice thing about a paper pattern is that the customer can get a glimpse of what the sign will look like on the wall and can ask Dean to move the paper pattern up or down as desired.
Once the pattern is up and the customer is happy with the placement, each letter is laid on top of the pattern using VHB industrial strength double sided tape and a dab of clear silicone. Once the letters are installed, Dean can slide the pattern away from the letters and the installation is complete.
One of the nicest things about doing letters this way is that the options are very broad. The sheet of material that is adhered to the 1″ black or white ultra board can be a variety of colors and textures. It’s opens a wide variety of options!
