Insignia Signs recently received a sign request from a company called Greenline West. The company was in need for window vinyl, door vinyl, and dimensional building letters.
The first step in the process was a site survey. We went to their location at no charge to take pictures and get measurements of the storefront. Once the pictures & measurements were taken, we were able to scale the image in our design software to get the size of what their sign will be. That allowed us to accurately quote them two options for their dimensional letters – 1/8″ thick Dibond or 1/2″ thick MDO — they chose MDO because they liked the idea of the thicker material.
The material had been chosen so Insignia was able to send over a proper quote along with the proof. We pride ourselves on EVERYDAY low prices on materials & installs. We were happy to hear that Greenline West wanted to proceed. After a few changes to the proof, the job was approved.
The MDO letters were cut from a 4’x8′ sheet. MDO stands for Medium Density Overlay which is a paintable wood/plywood with a weather-resistant resin overlay bonded to the wood by heat and pressure. It’s great for outdoors even in the Las Vegas heat. The letters are cut using a CNC Router and are raw on all edges. The next step was to paint the sides black and lay a UV laminated vinyl on the faces. Here is a picture of our work in progress:
We had a few hours of prep time at the store. After we’d painted all the sides and covered all faces, we had to prep all of the window & door vinyl. The door vinyl included a full color logo so we printed the door & window vinyl using our HP Latex printer – then UV laminated all the vinyl. This UV laminate is great because it allows a minimum of 10 years outdoors, even in the Las Vegas sun!
Dean was now ready to install – he installed the individually cut MDO letters with industrial strength tape & clear silicone. The main purpose of the tape is to hold the letters in place until the silicone dries – then they’re attached to the building for the long haul. The install was completed, a picture of it is below.
