Our standard A-Frame signs are very popular in Las Vegas because they’re weather resistant and have the ability to hold sand or water for the windy days. Each A-Frame holds (2) single sided Coroplast signs at 3’high x 2’wide. We use either our standard cut vinyl or digitally printed vinyl which always has a uv laminate to keep it weather-safe. Below is a picture of our standard A-Frame, which is $200 +tax – including the frame itself, both single sided signs, and free custom designs.
Audrey was looking for an A-Frame specifically created from 1/2″ MDO because she prefers that look over the plastic A-Frames we normally sell. MDO stands for Medium Density Overlay and is a paintable surface made of plywood with a weather-resistant resin overlay bonded to the wood by heat and pressure. This material does great outdoors and is a heavy, sturdy, and durable material.
The first step in creating the (5) custom A-Frames was cutting the pieces of MDO from the 4’x8′ sheets we stock. Each of the (5) A-Frames signs Audrey ordered would have (2) 3’h x 2’w single sided MDO panels, so we cut a total of (10) 3’x2′ sheets of MDO. Cutting the pieces from the 4’x8′ sheet created edges that were raw wood rather than white, so we put wax paper over the production table and painted each raw edge of the material.
The design and colors were finalized and printed – then laminated with our matte uv laminate to protect the print. Each panel was single sided, so we applied the digital vinyl to the front of each board. Since these were for high end homes, Audrey wanted everything to match nicely, including having no raw wood or silver screws visible. The backs of the MDOs were raw wood so we applied white vinyl to all back panels. We also painted all the screw heads and anchor surfaces white so nothing on the sign face was silver.
Almost finished! The last step was to attach the handles. The handle at the top adjoined the (2) single sided MDO panels and (1) silver chain in the middle assured the frame would stand nicely and be visible at all times while set up. We also put handles on the sides per Audrey’s request for easier carrying.
The frames were now complete and ready for pickup. Even though this wasn’t what we normally do for A-Frames, we figured out exactly what the customer had in mind and built them per her request. Insignia Signs is always open to new ideas and new methods and we thank Audrey for this opportunity.
