A completed just this week for Insignia Signs were TWO large exterior building signs for Thermo King. They did not have any building signage and knew they needed something that will help their building STAND OUT. This article outlines our process of designing, producing, and installing exterior building signs for Thermo King.
In the image below you will see the completed signs. The (2) signs seen on both the left and right sides of the building have a completed final size of 33″h x 420″w.
The sign substrate Insignia Signs used for these signs is 1/8″ thick Dibond. Dibond material is a unique material because it can withhold exterior elements that Las Vegas signs endure. It is an aluminum composite panel that consists of (2) thin pieces of aluminum with a condensed black PVC in the middle. Dibond is used for a variety of signage, including individually cut dimensional letters, and interior & exterior substrate signage. The sheets we used for this material have a satin black finish. Below is a picture of Dibond material, where you can see the three layers that Dibond is composed of.
Our production team applied two different high performance vinyls to the face of the satin black Dibond sheets. The white vinyl was cut from a 48″ wide Arlon 2100 High Performance Series. This vinyl has a very long life span and is great for outdoor signage. The colors in the sign uses a 3m Gerber 220 High Performance Series. The vinyl colors were chosen to match the Pantone colors of Thermo King’s specific logos.
The vinyl and the materials had been chosen, the next step was production. Dibond comes in 48″x96″ sheets and the final size of each of the two signs was 33″x420″, so Dean cut (4) sheets at 33″x96″ and (1) sheet at 33″x36″ for each sign. The vinyl was then “weeded” and applied to the sheets of Dibond. The signs were ready to be installed!
Before we scheduled the installation, we applied for a sign permit with the City of North Las Vegas. The permit application required very specific drawings including: specific size details of the building, the location of the signs on the building, method of sign attachment, and expectant lifespan of the signage. The City of North Las Vegas Building & Permitting office reviewed the application very carefully and approved both signs. Next step – Installation!
Dean installed the signs with self tappers directly into the Thermo King building. Since the material was black, Dean spray painted the visible screws black, an added touch to be sure the signs look perfect. The installation went very smoothly and was completed as planned. Building signs come in many shapes, sizes, and types. This building wasn’t identified as Thermo King, Sonsray Machinery, or TK Services but in no time at all — you now can’t miss them! Their name is displayed largely on the building for all of their customers to see them from the street.
