Local Massage Pro Offers Treatment for New Mothers
Life as a new mother is exciting, stressful, overwhelming and rewarding all at the same time. Aside from the range of emotions and responsibilities new moms have to deal with, there is also a change going on with their bodies which can cause discomfort. While many new moms might not realize it, they must prioritize self care during this time to be able to best care for their little ones.
One great way to promote self care for new mothers is by getting postpartum massages. As a certified massage therapist in the East Bay, I have worked with many new mothers and helped them receive mental and physical relief through specialized massage treatments.
In the sections to follow, I will detail the benefits of postpartum massages and provide some information on my client care process.
Prioritize Self Care
As a new mother, it’s easy to put your needs below others. Many new moms try to take on the needs of their babies, their families and their responsibilities and don’t realize how worn down they can get. I have worked with many new moms and they all have reported a boost in energy, in their mood and in their ability to best care for their families after getting a massage. Taking the time to reset, recharge and heal is one of the best decisions a new mom can make.
Mental Health Boost
While there are numerous physical benefits to getting a massage which we will touch on in the next section, the mental aspect of massage is sometimes just as impactful. As a new mother, the roller coaster of emotions can be overwhelming. Massage therapy is proven to increase mental health by working with the body’s connected systems to promote relaxation, stress relief, ease tension and more. Rejuvenating your body also allows for your mind to become more clear, and this clarity always serves new mothers well.
Pain Relief and Prevention
People often focus on all the changes a woman’s body undergoes during pregnancy, but the changes which occur in the aftermath shouldn’t be discounted either. As your body adapts to life after childbirth, issues like muscle pain and weakness can occur. When you receive a postpartum massage from a trained expert, these issues can be addressed directly, giving you the best chance to live pain free. Prenatal massage is specialized, and it’s designed to deal with the unique aspects of the body after childbirth.
Customized, Safe Treatments
When I work with a new client, I always listen to their needs and health goals before getting started to create a plan tailored to them. Many new moms are concerned about the safety of a prenatal massage and ask how soon after childbirth they can proceed with treatment. In most cases, treatment can begin as soon as the mother and their medical professional are comfortable with them. The only exception is when the mom has had a c-section, where the waiting period can be up to one month and approval from their doctor is needed.
