Customers may not know much about laminates, but they are sure glad when they have it on their printed images or signs. For any printed sign that gets a lot of use, abuse, or is exposed to harsh outdoor elements, Reflection Signs and Graphics recommends that it be laminated. This protects the image and makes it more durable. Vehicles wraps, exterior window graphics, and floor graphics are examples of images that are routinely laminated.
When getting quotes from sign companies, you should always request a detailed itemization of the costs and materials used. Some sign companies do not quote lamination, particularly on the window perforation. This certainly saves the client money for this initial application; however, it will be more expensive in the long run when it needs to be replaced in a year.
I consider un-laminated window graphics on cars and trucks to not only to be inferior in quality, but to be unsafe. Window perforation is 50% holes and 50% printed image on vinyl. Think of the “physics” of this phenomenon. The surface is not smooth. In Colorado, we have a very dusty environment. Dirt collects in the little divots (perforation) where no vinyl exists. This grit compromises visibility out of the window. The same occurs when it rains. The water droplets pool in the holes.
