Holdrite makes products to hold pipes. It is common knowledge that more dope in joints stops leaks. When in doubt Holdrite’s innovative bracket systems hold pipes in place. Holdrite is so successful in these products, they needed a new home office. Moving to Poway into a new placement they needed new signs.
We installed several new signs into Holdrite’s new place last week. Here is how it went.
We took down the signs from the former building owner. These were rotted and falling apart. The reason for these issues was the material choice. They used a plywood. Plywood is great until the sun, heat and water start to attack the wood. Then they start to delaminate.
Material PVC: There are many material choices, but PVC is a great choice for this project. It can not delaminate with moister or heat. Signs for San Diego used a 1 inch thick sheet – that is pretty thick, but the added thickness provides greater structure.
Mounting pin mount. The mounting for this sign it pinned into the building. We are not talking about Bic Pens here. A series of small holes are drilled into the wall, filled with silicon and the pints inserted into the sign. This means the sign is supported and very strong. We also silicon the back to the wall. This is for safety, keeps the sign on the wall over a long period of time and keeps every letter straight and a pin.
No illumination is needed for this sign, Holdrite is in an industrial park and sells to distributors. It is a daytime business.
We make our own letters and shapes. At Signs for San Diego we cut and shape every letter in-house. Most sign vendors don’t. There are several advantages to in-house manufacturing: Holdrite got exactly what they wanted, the choice of materials (in this case a 1” thick PVC) is the right choice for Holdrite – there was no compromise, the schedule is much more controlled and manageable.
Digital Printing and Lamination. Holdrite has specific colors and design. We use a new HP latex printer to exactly produce the correct colors and then seal these colors in with a UV blocking laminate. The colors are on the letters, perfectly sized and applied.
Installation. The installation at Holdrite was not straightforward. The building sits on a slope and the years have resulted in landscaping and tree growth around the building. Signs for San Diego likes to use out bucket truck. It is versatile and makes these sorts of jobs much easier. One of the signs allowed for this, but the other was inaccessible. We used 32 foot ladders to reach the walls and did it by hand.
