Most channel letters are Aluminum with straigh 5 inch sides and acrylic faces. The big change in the last 20 years is the obsolecence on Neon and its replacement with LEDs.
This technology moves sloooowly and that is one of the reasons Gemlite is so interesting. It has a unique look and feel. No Aluminum and curves throughout it is a stand out. GemLite Channel Letters are molded plastic and it makes you look different from the crowd.
While traditional channel letters are 5 inches deep, LEDs have started to bring this down. Neon runs hot and it needs the 5 inches, but LEDs run cold and 3 inch sides are becoming more common. These plastic letters are even lower profile, about 2.5 inches.
Tradisional Channel Letters have a face and sides. The transision is a band called a trim cap. The Gemlite letters have a face and sides as one unit. There is a base that fits within the onit outside unit. The base has an LED tray, and attaches to your wall (desk, or other backing).
These LEDs are wide angle output. They run on a 12 volt DC power supply.
These come in 8 colors ranging from white, yellow, 2 blues a green and 3 red/oranges. The LED also comes in 5 colors.
The sizes are 9” to 36 inches and come in 6 fonts.
Because these are a soft plastic they are not as ridged as Aluminum Channle Letters. Larger letters require a backer material for support.
Where can these be used? Anywhere, but they have a great smooth curved sides that can be touched and look finished close up. This makes them great for AMTs, Ticket Windows, Point of Purchase advertising, indoor malls, portable displays and other areas where there is a walking crowd.
They can be UL listed and have a good fire rating.
