Here are a couple of pictures of a channel letter sign we finished last week Sushi4Reel
In retail malls it is expected you will install channel letters. But do you know how to buy Channel Letters?
Every store in every strip mall uses these to pull in customers. They are effective and not having such a sign puts you at a large disadvantage. There are a number of options and tips you can use:
The most popular in the front lite channel letter. These have LEDs in the base and translucent fronts or faces.
Tip #1 The brightest is white, for the most impact – think white. Red and blue are very popular as well
Tip # 2, where possibly ask for blue or red translucent acrylic rather than white with colored vinyl. It is a little brighter and last longer.
Tip #3 If you use a colored vinyl but still want to enhance the brightness of the white leave a white boarder around the colored letter At night this will have a white outline that is distinctive and interesting. It carries more impact.
Tip #4 Use a logo box. Most signs are letters or rectangular boxes, a logo box can be in the shape of a logo. These are like letters in construction, but create interest. It pulls customer’s in
Tip #5 the trim around the face is normally black or white, but you can request other colors. If the walls (called returns) are black, choice a light colored trim cap, gold might be a good choice – The light against the black will make it POP, If you use a white return, pick a dark trim cap – like black and get the same POP.
Tip #6 A variation on color is called daylight black, night white. This is achieves with a perforated vinyl that looks a little like a screen in a window. The “screen” is black, but light comes through at night and shines white.
Tip #7 Use LEDs, All of these channel letter signs were neon. Neon cost about 8 times more to run, it is harder to repair and maintain. Use LEDs
These are a lot like front lite but turned around. The light comes out the back. These light the wall and the letters are dark (at night). It is a little more elegant and a little more expensive, but it is distinctive.
Tip #7 You can control how much light comes out by using taller or shorted stand offs. This can give you a tighter – more detailed look. Taller standoffs flood the wall with more light. Both are good, but you may want to pick the one that differs from the others in your area to be distinctive.
Tip #8 LEDs come in colors, white is the norm, but you can use different colors to stand out, Red is one possibility.
