VTG’s Exterior Building Sign in Vista CA, is up. It is bright, bold and in place. High quality Architectural Signage is not an expense, but an investment in your company.
What does it take to put up a sign like this for you? Well, there are 6 steps:
Design – The first step is to design what you want in an Exterior Building Sign. There a number of limitations: the rules of the complex (Sign policy), the approval of the building owner, compliance with the local ordinances. Once you have a design that complies with all these other rules it is ready to run through the other 5 steps.
The Sign policy. Sign policies of Sign Criteria are rules drafted by the owners and filed in the city planning office. These rules are tighter than the legal requirements and basically are to insure uniformity for the complex’s architectural signage. When you comply, the assumption is you will get property manager approval, but the reality is sometimes different.
Property Manager Approval or owner’s approval are generally interchangeable for permitting purposes. This should be easy, but in reality different property managers work at different speeds. Insurance disclosures, where the sign actually goes, the sizes of your and other signs, colors, styles, costs, and confusion all come into play.
City Approval. This is really in 2 parts, the Planning desk and the Building Desk. “Planning” just makes sure your plans comply with the law. “Building” is there to insure the structure is solid and reliable. In reality, personal opinions and extra legal requirements can come into play here. Some cities are quick, others are slow. Some are reasonably priced, others are obscenely priced.
The sign construction – in this case, we routed Acrylic in house and painted it with an automotive quality finish. We also do channel letters, illuminated cabinets, Aluminum and PVC signs. Basically your needs, the sign policy and the building drive the construction.
Installation – We use our own crews for exterior Building Sign Installation. We are careful to pick the timing and prefer to work odd hours when there is no traffic. We also like to avoid rain and moister. We want a clean, dry surface to work with and prefer a period when traffic control is a non-issue.
