Move a Sign? Lobby Sign makes the company move! If you have invested a lot of money in a sign and now business is so good you need to move to a bigger place can you move the sign?? It depends: A lot of signs use the building or the wall for their structure. Richards Reality Group asked Signs for San Diego to move a Lobby Sign. For them – the answer was “Yes” and it saved them a lot of bucks.
Here are some the things to look for when taking that lobby sign with you.
Size and Space. Lobby signs are built to fit the wall they mount to. If it is coming from small lobby into a big lobby it may look out of proportion. You can do a number of things to increase your chances for reuse. When buying a lobby sign, Buy big. A Lobby Sign taking 25% to 33% on the width of a wall is about right. Go with the 33% or even a little more.
Materials. Some materials stick to a wall better than they stick to themselves. Acrylic, PVC, wood and metal components are easier to pry off a wall. Foam, vinyl, paint and paper are hard to remove without damage. The better materials are more money, but not a lot more – Buy a little better material and the results look better, and you have a better chance to keep it through a move.
Mounting boards In some cases letters are mounted directly to a wall, but they need not be. Using a substrate like a clear acrylic on standoffs makes for a richer look and feel. It also makes the Lobby Sign easy to move. It can be done without tools – just unscrew the standoff caps and the sign is loose.
Using a Lobby Sign in a different place. When you outgrow a Lobby Sign don’t give up on your investment. Older lobby signs can be used in meeting rooms, as background on teleconferences, in high profile offices like the back wall of the President’s office or CEO, COO, CFO’s office. They can be seen in lunchrooms.
Richard’s Reality Group used Signs for San Diego to take down a Lobby Sign. Silicon was used to on the original wall. The original wall was damaged as the Silicon pulled out, but the letters were not. It was reinstalled in the new office lobby and it looks better today than the day it was removed.
