Do you need a banner? A really big banner?
CSUSM did.
Every year, Cal State San Marcos Commencement Ceremonies mint thousands of new graduates, and this year is no exception. Every year, for the past several years, they have used a multimedia trailer as a part of the ceremonies. The trailer, nicknamed Big Mo, has a 48 foot wide, 13 foot high, multimedia LED screen that rises out of the semi truck. The screen broadcasts the commencement for about 5,000 attendees for the event on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25, 2014.
In previous years, CSUSM wrapped Big Mo with a custom vehicle wrap. But every year they would wrap Big Mo, and then take off the wrap the following day. And every year, the wrap required logistical planning and changes, and ended up being very costly. So we came up with a solution that would be more flexible and save them a lot of money over the years.
Instead of a full vehicle wrap, we designed a 13 ½ foot tall, 40 foot wide banner to hang on the side of the trailer. You can see an example of the banner in the image above. It costs 1/2 the price of the wrap and is usable for many years. We estimate that the total savings over 5 years is over $30,000!
Banners are a great way to advertise your business in the short term, as well as the long term. Compared to other advertising media, banners are inexpensive and easy to install and remove. They’re temporary, so they can be put up for a day or two – like CSUSM – or for several months. Notice that CSUSM’s banner design doesn’t have a date on it. This is a great idea because in past years the year of the graduating class was in the wrap design. The banner doesn’t have a year in the design, making it reusable over several years.
