Sometimes like things come in bunches. Right now, it seems that we are doing a lot of sign removals for customers. The season is wrong – stores are trying to take advantage of holiday gift-giving, schools are in session, most businesses don’t normally make changes in December. But this year, things seem to be different. A few examples – The owner of a service-oriented company in Avon vacated his spot in a mall. I don’t ask what prompts a change, but apparently he either had a falling out with the landlord or decided he could conduct his business just as well elsewhere. We removed his triple-stacked channel letters on raceways, caulked the holes in the wall and capped the electrics. He saved the letters, as he may move to a location where they are useful again. A charter school network moved a school down a couple of blocks, as it was a superior location. While they did this over the summer, their lease wasn’t up until December. Naturally, a few items were put off until close to the time to vacate. One of them is removing an electrified blade sign on the outside of the building. We took it down earlier today, caulked the holes in the wall and capped the electrics. A network of dentists had a dentist leave his (local) location and arranged for another to move in. They contracted with us to remove the vinyl lettering from the glass door and install updated lettering. A local business decided to move to be closer to the owner’s residence. She had a slew of vinyl graphics on her (4) large windows. The landlord contracted with us to take them down so the spot was more readily rentable. After 2 hours of hard work, the windows were free of graphics and all adhesive had been removed. It doesn’t matter whether we made the sign(s) or not; we know how to take them down. I just wonder what will happen in January and February, when the retail stores that were just hanging on through the holidays tend to close. No matter – we will be here, caulk gun and razor blades at the ready.
