In a previous Blog, I alluded to the fact that Home Smart Top Flight Professionals had All Kinds of Signs make and install a large interior wall sign, yet did not have an exterior sign. There was a reason – owner Brian Walsh was having a hard time accepting the color of letters that was mandated by the sign plan for the business condominiums. The sign plan called for a blue that he just didn’t like. Sign plans are common now. Most cities require that a sign be ‘permitted’ before it is installed. An application must be filled out, plans drawn up and submitted to the building department. In many cities, a lengthy review follows, often with the owner and/or sign company needing to appear before a committee in an effort to get the sign approved. Sign plans have helped shorten the process. In the case of Home Smart Top flight Professionals, the condominium association filed a sign plan with the city, appeared before the Planning Commission, and was approved. The plan dictates the size, type, method of attachment, and other parameters for any sign that might be erected in the complex. When someone wishes to erect or change a sign, they still must submit an application, but as long as it meets the criteria of the existing sign plan, it can be readily approved by the city. Looking at his neighbors signs, he decided to come to grips with the color. All Kinds of Signs made the decision a little easier by showing him a blue that he found more palatable that was acceptable under the sign plan.   After filing for and receiving a permit for the proposed sign, All Kinds of Signs had the formed plastic letters fabricated by Gemini, quite possibly the largest and most well-known manufacturer of such letters in the country. Gemini letters come with a life-time warranty. Installation went smoothly. The end result is a handsome sign, to code, working to give Home Smart Top Flight Professionals the exposure Brian desires.
