Constellation Schools, a network of highly respected charter schools with headquarters in Parma, OH, decided they needed additional street exposure for some of their schools. They turned to All Kinds of Signs for street banners, pole banner kits and installation. Westpark Community Elementary was chosen to be the first school to receive pole banners, making it the model. Constellation, All Kinds of Signs and the City of Cleveland (primarily through the Kamm's Corners Development Corporation) worked out the legalities. The banner size of 30” x 60” was ascertained. Research by All kinds of Signs led to the selection of a very high quality pole banner kit, which also met the city’s criteria. The kit is guaranteed for 10 years and in winds up to 70 mph when properly installed. Possible utility poles were selected. Constellation’s Brian Preseren learned the ins and outs of applying for and receiving permission from the utility company to use their poles (this may have been the most difficult part of the project!). 4 poles were eventually chosen and approved. A design unique to Westpark was decided upon for all 4 poles. Using Constellation’s colors, the design calls out the name of the school, identifies it as a Constellation school and notes the network’s tagline, ‘The RIGHT choice for parents and a REAL CHANCE for children’. Double-sided banners were fabricated from 18 oz. quality banner material. Sewn hems with top and bottom pole pockets and webbing for strength running down the right and left sides, looping into the pockets were added. 2 grommets on the pole side were installed to facilitate tie-downs to help prevent the banners from leaving the poles. After the successful installation, Constellation decided to continue the model at other locations. Old Brooklyn Community Middle and, most recently, Madison Community Elementary have received banners. Puritas Community Elementary’ s new location and Elyria Community Elementary are in the works.
