Project: Hard Drive Computer Repair
Client: Mike B
Location: Concord, CA
We were contacted by Mike B of Concord, CA to repair his failing computer hard drive on his laptop. You can see, in the picture in this article, a snapshot an example of the computer repair process for laptop computers.
First, we cloned the contents of the old hard drive to a new hard drive to back it up and make sure nothing got lost. Our client Mike suspected that he might have a virus or malware problem, so we tested the computer system for all potential hardware and software problems. But when the computer passed all the tests, we came to the conclusion that his computer did not have a virus after all, and just needed a new hard drive. The computer is now fixed and working fine, and Mike is very happy that his laptop is functioning well again, and that he did not lose any files in the process.
Testing computers for viruses is a part of the process of elimination when it comes to diagnosing and fixing a computer’s hard drive. Oftentimes people don’t know what’s wrong with their computer and they get frustrated easily, sometimes prematurely rushing to the store to buy a new computer when a repair may be a better option. Perhaps your computer is running slowly, keeps shutting down on you, or takes a long time to restart. These can all be signs that your computer could have a virus or hard drive problem, and it recommended that you have it inspected by a professional as soon as possible.
Running tests on your computer regularly is a great way to be proactive and avoid potentially losing valuable information from a crashed hard drive or computer virus.
When it comes to important computer files, it’s always a good idea to back up everything that you don’t want to lose onto at least two separate backup locations, for example to an external hard drive and to the Internet (cloud-based storage). If you do not back up your computer’s files, or wait too long to fix a problem, then you run the risk of losing information that you can never get back again. If you don’t have a backup system in place, or are concerned that you might be susceptible to a potential virus or hard drive crash, we can come out to your place of business and take a look.
