Project: Exterior painting and pressure washing

Ron, a home owner in Oak Park, CA, contacted us because he wanted to refresh the look of his home. Over time, weather, dirt and debris can tarnish that brand new look of a freshly painted home. Ron’s home was completely white, which meant that he had to constantly have it cleaned and repainted to keep it looking nice. All Ron really wanted was to spend more time doing other things, besides maintaining the outside of his home.
We met with Ron, as we do with all of our clients, to discuss options for a solution that would last much longer and require much less maintenance. It really came down to a new color selection, but there was a lot of other work that we needed to do to the home to get it ready for painting.
We started by pressure washing the exterior of the entire home to remove all loose paint, debris, broken pieces of stucco, and dirt that could keep the paint from adhering properly. Next, we repaired and replaced the wood trim where it was rotted or worn away. Then we made repairs to the stucco and patched it where it was needed. With the process we use for patching stucco, you can’t even tell there was any damaged areas in the stucco. Lastly, we inspected the wood siding and trim, and applied a high quality caulking as needed to seal any gaps in the wood to help preserve the wood surfaces by keeping out moisture, which can rot wood over time.
Now we were ready for paint.
We painted Ron’s home with two coats of a green tone from Dunn Edwards paints. The trim was painted white to add some depth, contrast and ‘pop’ to the home. Without contrast, like when a home is painted all one color, it tends to blend together, and become a bit muted.
