Experienced F-150 Repair Services Available The Ford F-150 has been the top-selling pickup truck in the US for decades, and for good reason. These trucks have historically provided good value, a comfortable experience, and in their higher trim models, a luxury feel which is rarely challenged in the pickup truck market. While the F-150 has established a well-earned positive reputation, like any vehicle, they do have issues from time to time. As a leading provider of auto repair and service in the Santa Clara area, we work on F-150s regularly and many of our technicians have decades of experience making these trucks run as intended. We get calls often regarding check engine lights on F-150s. Modern trucks might be able to display an error message with the exact issue written out, while older models might only turn the light on. In either case, we can quickly diagnose the root cause and typically offer a timely repair. In this article, we will discuss the most common reasons for the F-150 check engine lights to come on, and offer insight into how we can help when they do. One small note before we begin: the F-150’s engine light can either be flashing or solid. If it’s flashing, this usually means there is a serious issue, and further driving of the truck can cause major damage. Nearly Dead Battery  Has your battery been changed lately? If the battery in an F-150 is old, corroded, or nearing the end of its lifespan, it can cause the check engine light to come on and even display incorrect error codes. Loose Gas Cap  While it might seem like a very minor issue, a loose gas cap can cause the check engine light to display on an F-150. A simple O-ring replacement takes care of this one, much to the delight of the truck’s owner. Computer/Sensor Problems  Modern F-150s have a myriad of sensors on the truck which monitor and/or regulate things like oxygen levels, fuel levels, air intake, emissions, and many other components of the vehicle. The computer itself also needs servicing occasionally. A faulty sensor is another common reason for the check engine light to be on. Ignition Issues/Misfiring  A misfiring engine can certainly cause the check engine light to come on, and for good reason. While the first few issues we discussed might seem minor, this one can cause more extensive damage if ignored. An engine misfire feels like the truck misses a beat when pressing the gas and results in jerky acceleration. This is an issue which should be diagnosed and repaired immediately. While these are some of the most common issues we see when diagnosing an F-150’s check engine light, this is certainly not an exhaustive list. As a best practice, it’s a good idea to have your truck checked out as soon as the light comes on. We have the right equipment, team members, and experience to diagnose and repair any F-150 issue, and we would be happy to check your truck out. Call us or stop by today to receive excellent service for your F-150.
