We recently had the pleasure of working with Proto Labs on their most current signage project. They needed a new branded lobby sign; something simple and clean. After receiving their logo and creating a mockup, we felt that we had a great basic design that perfectly fit their needs.
The pictures provided show the sign both right after completion and after installation. The wood background of the desk provides an attractive setting for the acrylic sign. Proto Labs’ signature colors really pop against the wood grain, helping it stand out amongst the surroundings.
Founded in 1999, Proto Labs began with one mission: to reduce the long production time and high cost of prototype injection-molded plastic parts. As the business has grown, they have expanded their technology to produce larger and more complex parts, as well as introducing a CNC machining service. This allowed them to open facilities in Europe and Asia, leading to the company going public in 2012.
This sign was a pretty basic design, so the manufacturing process was reasonably simple. We first had a piece of acrylic cut to the appropriate size. The piece was prepped for vinyl application, where the excess material was then weeded out after it was smoothed to the surface. Holes were drilled in the acrylic for the standoffs, which were used to secure the sign to the wooden desk.
