Large, bright, and bold channel letters are a tried and true way to make your business stand out both during the day and lit up at night. Randall Patty with Fun Stuff Comics and Cards reached out to us for our expertise in getting his new business to stand out with unique, readable, and bold signage.
When designing Randall’s outdoor building signage, we had a few points to consider. First, he wanted to have his building sign seen from the very busy street parallel to the location. Next, he wanted to keep the bold fuchsia branding color for the text but also had a tight budget as many new business owners do. We agreed upon channel letters with a direct mount on the front of the building, with vinyl lettering on the windows and front entrance door. The channel letters were going to be the largest expense so we wanted to capitalize on the best value offering the largest size within his budget. We kept only the most important aspects on the channel letter sign to keep the cost down, and utilized the windows and door to highlight the rest. We chose digital prints for maintaining the bright pink color for the faces, with black returns and trim caps. Because the landlord had stipulations for the size based on a percentage of the full width of the storefront, we chose the perfectly viewable size from the street within what was allowed.
For the vinyl lettering, the client wanted each window to showcase a different product that he carried including “COMICS”, “CARDS”, “TOYS” and “GAMES”. We cut each 12” letter out of 3M 35C white vinyl and 3M 8508 gloss overlaminate on our plotter, weeding out the negative vinyl space, and covering with transfer tape. Next was the vinyl for the door. We print to cut the logo and pertinent info in the bright pink from their branding with the same vinyls and laminate we used for the lettering on the windows. We used the plotter and transfer tape methods again and prepared to gather our supplies to perform the next step of installation.
Channel letters were set with direct mounting to the stucco fascia for the building directly centered above the space. We chose to mount in two lines for aesthetic and space limitations. The vinyl lettering were placed in each window after clean and prep detailing. Each were carefully measured, centered and marked for perfect level placement.
