Driving around town to and from work, running errands, and traveling makes for a busy summer season.  And when it comes to your car, it’s important that it is in tip-top shape so that you can get to and from where you need to go.  But over time, you may have heard some myths about taking care of your care that simply aren’t true.  Here are some common myths auto mechanics have debunked.

Myth #1 It’s Best to Warm Up Your Car First

Whether it’s warm or cold weather, many like to try to start their car first, hoping that this will make the engine more efficient.  But while starting it first can indeed warm up the engine, it doesn’t work the way you think it does.  In fact, many of the multiple car parts that you can find under the hood can’t warm up until the car is actually moving, not just idling in the driveway.  In short, the best way to warm up your engine is to start your car and get it moving.

Myth #2 Windows Vs Air Conditioning

One of the most common myths is that driving with the windows down can reduce fuel efficiency for a car because the air coming through when the windows are down can create drag.  This does make sense as it is true, that having the windows down will in fact create drag, but when it comes to your fuel economy, it’s also true that running the air conditioner actually decreases fuel efficiency more than driving with your windows down.  Thankfully, a car that is well maintained will hold its fuel efficiency better than a car that may not be functioning optimally.  You can obtain your car’s best fuel efficiency with regular maintenance and repairs from your trusted auto mechanic in 77018.

Myth #3 Performance Fuel Is Better than Regular Fuel for Car Performance

It’s important to note that this is in fact a myth as it can be an expensive fix if you fall for this myth.  Unless you drive a car that specifically calls for performance fuel, your car is not made for this type of fuel, no matter how well you wish it would perform.  Performance fuel is for luxury, performance cars that require higher octane levels for a smoother ride.  Avoid paying for a costly repair by falling for this myth. For all your care and maintenance needs, Liberty Garage is here to help.  Trust your car to our professional auto mechanics who will make any necessary repairs to get you back out on the road this summer.
