Naples, FL - Can Spray Foam Roofing Lower Your Energy Bills This Summer?

SYNOPSIS: PRG Roofing & Construction Inc., based in Fort Myers and serving Naples, explains how spray polyurethane foam roofing works as both a continuous insulator and a reflective surface on flat roofs.

Picture a flat section of your Naples roof in July at midday. It soaks up the sun's heat for hours, and that heat presses down through the deck into the conditioned air below. Your air conditioner pays for every degree of it. If the unit runs late into the evening and your upstairs rooms stay warm after sunset, the roof plane is where that problem starts. PRG Roofing & Construction Inc., based in Fort Myers and serving Naples, sees this pattern on flat and low-slope roofs. Spray polyurethane foam roofing is built to interrupt it at the roof plane itself. How The Foam-And-Coating Assembly Works Spray polyurethane foam, known in the trade as SPF, starts as two liquids that combine at the spray gun. They react within seconds of hitting the deck. The foam bonds directly to the substrate as a closed-cell rigid layer, and it carries roughly R-6 to R-7 of insulation per inch. That insulation sits up at the roof plane, not down at the attic floor. Over the cured foam we spray an elastomeric reflective coating in measured mil-thickness passes. That topcoat is the UV barrier, the waterproof surface, and the reflective finish in one. A Seamless Surface Closes The Seams That Leak On a layered membrane system, every seam is a potential water path. That is where most of those roof leaks begin. Each lap weld and fastener field can open over time under wind-driven rain and the daily expansion and contraction of the roof. A fully cured SPF system has none of those weak points. The liquid expands into one continuous field with no laps and no fasteners through it. The foam even rises around vent pipes, curbs, and equipment supports and self-flashes each penetration in the same pass. We document every non-standard detail with time-stamped photos. Taper-To-Drain Solves Ponding Without Cricket Framing A flat roof that holds water in one corner after a storm carries a slow failure. Standing water loads the structure and works into whatever opening the membrane has. Foam goes down in lifts built to a varying thickness, so we pitch the surface toward the drains. That builds positive drainage across a section that started dead flat. The taper happens in the foam itself, with no structural cricket framing below the deck. We run a laser-pitch check on every flat job before any spray work begins. The Deck Has To Read Dry Before The Foam Goes Down Because SPF bonds directly to the substrate, any moisture trapped under the foam at application stays sealed in. That one detail changes the whole failure path. We take pin moisture-meter readings across the deck before any spray begins. The 18% moisture line decides whether decking gets replaced first. A deck that reads clean and structurally sound can take a re-cover, which spares you the cost and disruption of a full tear-off. A deck with high readings gets those sections pulled and replaced before the foam goes down. The Repair, Restore, And Replace Ladder On A Foam Roof A foam roof rewards maintenance and punishes neglect, and the reflective coating is the part that wears. A small worn area gets a spot repair, sealed and re-coated before moisture reaches the foam beneath. A roof where the foam is sound but the topcoat has aged out gets a full re-coat. That re-coat resets the wear layer without touching the foam underneath. We document every stage with time-stamped photos and file wind-mitigation paperwork for your insurance carrier in coastal Collier County. None of this puts you on the roof. Every reading and recoat decision belongs with our crew, not with you on a ladder. Start With A Slope Check And A Moisture Reading If you are weighing whether spray foam fits your Naples flat section, the answer starts with two checks. We read the slope, and we scan the deck for moisture. Call PRG Roofing & Construction Inc. at (239) 237-2906, and we will measure the slope, read the deck, and tell you whether a re-cover is on the table. The right foam on a dry, sound deck is among the most durable assemblies we build here. Every cooling season you wait runs the bill higher and pushes the deck closer to a tear-off. We would rather show you that in person.
