When it comes to designing the perfect sign for your business there are many factors to consider from location, to style, to specific components. High quality signage enhances communication between your business and your clientele, provides a competitive advantage against competitors, is a cost-effective marketing tool, increases sales opportunities and builds brand awareness. Not only does quality signage leave a mark on beautifying the business for employees, but it creates a relationship with customers. It is even said that signage can have as much of an impact as your website!
So, what goes into designing a sign?
All signs are a unique combination of elements which come together to create an eye-catching signage solution. Sign designers have to take all these elements into effect in order to create the ideal signage package for your business. It all starts with the branding. If your company has a logo, designated fonts, specific colors or just a general aesthetic all these things play a critical role in ensuring the new sign will be a cohesive element for your branding package. If your company does not have a logo, branding guide, or signage plan those are services we can provide for you!
Once the basic visual elements are accounted for the sign designer dives into the general style. Between interior signs, exterior signs and vehicle wraps there are hundreds of styles to choose from! The sign designer and team take into account what is permitted in the area, how the exterior elements surrounding the sign will impact the appearance of the sign and what elements will help make the largest impact while adhering to a client’s budget.
Quoting and designing custom signage goes hand in hand in order to ensure the most accurate quote. Once we have a deposit we get to work finalizing details of elements, production and installation in order to ensure that the signage will be durable and long lasting.
In order to showcase a look into the sign design process we will discuss the process and elements of one showcase sign our team has created within the past year.
Lobby Signs: The STP Wall Sign
The STP wall sign is a one of a kind lit sign cabinet mounted on standoffs. When we started the process of designing this sign we began by conducting a site survey of the property. As a new office with an industrial flair, we knew we wanted to include an industrial element into the sign design.
As is often the case with custom signs, the team was unfamiliar with the logistics of signs so many of the design decisions fell on our designer. To incorporate the industrial element, we proposed applying a faux diamond plate to the surface to serve as a backdrop to the sign. They loved the idea. They knew that they wanted a metallic logo sign with a lighting element, so we got to work. The concept was to have the letter component of STP be empty, so you could see through to the diamond plate backer. We refer to this as a reverse channel letter.
The completed sign consisted of a central metallic panel encompassing the reverse channel letters, an acrylic ring with translucent vinyl in the blue and orange brand colors mounted in a cabinet with LED lighting within. As we went through the process our design team worked closely with our fabricator and installer to adapt elements to be secure, include all the elements the customer was looking for all while staying true to the design they approved of.
The final sign is bold, fits in with the businesses branding, and is bound to get them noticed!
