Dear San Bernadino Police Department,
I want to thank you for what you are doing to control texting and driving. I have had a burden for some time for people who do not follow the law about hands free driving, and have not known what we as citizens can do about it.
A few weeks ago on Saturday morning, I was driving home after meeting with my daughter and grand daughter to do the “big” grocery shopping, only to witness a man in a construction truck drive up next to me at a light while he was talking on the phone and then dial his next call. My window was open and I yelled out to him to get off the phone. He said, “What?” I repeated myself, and he said “It’s my business”. . . I told him it was “my life”. . . He then told me that “Your life isn’t important” . . .
This made me upset enough that I remembered his license number, and pulled off as soon as possible to call the Pittsburg, CA Police Department. The person who answered the phone told me that she agreed with me and had the same concerns, but that there was nothing we could do unless the police witness it. She also said that it’s not wise to confront these drivers, since so many people have guns nowadays. . . .
When I got home, I contacted Claycord.com, which is a local, private news hotline. I asked them if they had any ideas about the whole thing, and I have heard nothing.
Anyway, I’m sure you wonder why I mention this on a blog which is dedicated to signs. As a sign professional who loves to design vehicle wraps and also spends a lot of time on the freeway, this is a subject that is very close to me. I realize that traffic accidents can give us more business (repairing and replacing wraps after body work has been done on vehicles); but I am also concerned for our clients who might either be killed or cause fatal accidents because they were texting or using their phones to call their next client. . . .
The thing I can promise is that Signature d’Sign & staff will not be found texting or using their phones while driving. If you call us, leave a message and we will return it as soon as we can safely find a place to park.
Please watch the video I have attached. It is more of a “reading” video – I’m not able to find any sound. I saw this on the CBS news this morning when I was at the gym, and the news staff was reporting about it. At this point, you will be required to read the video. Great idea, San Bernadino Police Department, San Bernadino, CA! I won’t tell you what they are doing. . . just that it’s a great idea!
