Our job supplying custom signs is one of our great joys. We are able to consider what the client is asking for and then design something that looks great, and/or gives them savings in the process.
Earlier this year, we were approached by Walnut Heights Swim Club in Walnut Creek, California. They wanted a sign with a list of award winning swimmers. It was a very large list, and it would need to be updated each season.
Their idea was to have each name engraved in brass and added one by one to a wooden display board. You can imagine the cost and labor involved with this, not to mention the aging that brass experiences when it is outside near a pool. In addition to this, they would be adding to the individual entries each season for new winners. The existing name signs would need to be removed, polished and returned.
Our suggestion was to print an attractive list of winners – white on red vinyl. This would then be mounted on Alumalite, a product of Omega Panel Products. The savings? As I remember, the cost was about 20% of the original plan. . . How did it look? Fantastic!
The club was also in the process of building a professional, electric scoreboard. When they saw the way our first project turned out, they decided to to make a panel sign on either side or the scoreboard showing the team names and graphics on either side. These are also made in the same way, red, white and black on red alumalite.
Last week they called us again. . . another project! They would like to add one more sign below the scoreboard. It’s another list. This time, it is a list to thank the members of the club who have sponsored the club. . . Of course, it will be in the same style. The first photo in this article shows the finished product.
oK, now I’m ready to go for a swim . . .
The club has become a showplace – one that looks refreshing while competitive. The red umbrellas and redwood tables and seats look great against the competition pool, and many of their competitors have been asking, “Where did you get your signs?”
