Some of the most beautiful colors for the new cars are a hidden curse if you are trying to match them with different shades of graphics. I had the opportunity this last week with a beautiful dark blue Subaru. From one angle, it is a deep blue and from another angle, it is Barney Purple! My client, WINDOWSMITH of Concord, has a fleet of white trucks with their name done in a gradient of dark blue to turquoise which is on half white and half light blue background. These colors didn’t work at all on the Subaru.
Owner, Rob Smith, took the car to his usual sign company, who wanted to use only white letters and no background, etc. Rob wanted something more artistic, so he brought it to me. We started out with 3M Gloss Anthracite 1080-G201 as part of the background and used a cut graphic for the letters which was a black – charcoal – white gradient with a white stroke. It looked great at first, but as my client studied it, it seemed to get lost in the dark colors. . . Then we replaced the Anthracite with Gloss White Aluminum. The car is for the express use of the daughter of the client, so her input was important. She loved the idea of using something with glitter. . . .They looked at it for the weekend, and then decided that the letters were still not popping. . .
Finally, we came up with the answer! 3M Gloss Midnight Blue background, and all of the letters are white with a black shadow. . . It worked! Popped! Stands out! Our Fellers agent, Heather Kinney was also a great help. She just happened to drop in on my when I was debating silvers, and gave us a special quote at a discount! Thank you Heather!
When we did the install it looked great, in fact our installer thinks he might use it for his wife’s car. . . My problem with it is that you can’t tell it’s there until the sun shines! To complicate things, we haven’t had much sunshine since we finished the project. . . I’m posting 4 pictures. See if you can see where the the color begins and ends. . . I’ll wait for the summer! Let me know if you see it!
Bring your vehicle to us for sparkles and glitter! We have all kinds of special effects. . . How about some carbon fiber?
