Polycarbonate Is What You Use When the Sign Has to Endure This replacement was not a patch job; it was a full swap using an 88-inch round polycarbonate face custom fit to the cabinet frame. Polycarbonate was the right material because it does not crack under temperature shifts, ripple in sunlight, or cloud up after six months of marine air exposure. Acrylic might be cheaper, but it fails faster under real conditions, especially in coastal cities like Carlsbad.
