Our experts at North Coast Signs recently worked with Creative Interior Design to design and install ADA-compliant office directional signs. We sat down with them to learn all about their needs while considering the growing need for accessible spaces while maintaining aesthetic appeal.
Materials Matter: Durability Meets Elegance
These materials were necessary for both the sake of compliance and aesthetics. The signs were fabricated from 1/16″ non-glare brushed aluminum acrylic, laminated to 1/4″ black acrylic. This ensures durability and a sleek, professional look.
Key Features:
- Tactile Text and Braille: The tactile text is raised 1/32″ thick and has Grade 2 Braille for the use of visually impaired persons.
- Non-Glare Surface: The matte finish reduces glare, making it ADA-compliant and improving readability.
- Mounting Precision: These signs are mounted with brushed aluminum standoff caps and double-faced foam tape for that polished, floating effect.
ADA Compliance: Beyond Legal Requirements
More than a legal requirement, an ADA-compliant sign makes a space inclusive. North Coast Signs ensures all projects meet or exceed the requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act standards, which include proper height and contrast specification with font specifications to accommodate the needs of the most diverse needs.
For this project:
- Mounted between 48 and 60 inches off the floor
- High contrast of text against the background for good readability
- Sans-serif font as per the ADA regulations
Stylish Wayfinding in Action
The finished signs merge with the modern office setting at Creative Interior Design. For example, the room number signs at the end of the hallway have arrows along with the Braille on a brushed aluminum making it fit in perfectly with the current décor. These clear and stylish directional cues help both clients and staff to move within the facility, furthering the professionalism and functionality.
Installation Excellence
These directional signs required a very precise mount installation. The signs appear a smidge raised due to utilizing satin-style or brushed aluminum standoff caps, impelling a clean piece of modernity. Once ready for mounting, the double-face foam mounting tape secures them without damaging the wall coverings.
