Exterior Monument Sign for Las Flores Church – Carlsbad, CA
Las Flores Church’s history starts all the way back to just after World War II in 1947 when they started a congregation with only 22 people. The population of Oceanside was just under 10,000 people. By 1971, Oceanside’s population had more than tripled in size and the church outgrew their current location. They now reside on two beautiful acres in Carlsbad, California. They were in need of a new monument sign so they gave us a call to see if we could help them. Monument signs are one of our specialties. We have a great team of designers, fabricators and installers that have the know all to create a beautiful sign at a cost that any church budget could love. So we met with the leadership team and discussed their vision and then went off to work on putting together proofs to show them for approval.
Monument signs are one of the first things people see when pulling up to your facility. It needs to be clear, easy to see and identify. Las Flores has a beautiful logo that uses three Pantone colors. Two shades of green and a shade of gold from the Paradise plant local to Carlsbad. Using these colors to layout our sign, we also needed to ask whether they would like this sign to be illuminated or non-illuminated. Las Flores chose to go with a non-illuminated. Our next step was to apply for permits with the City of Carlsbad to make sure everything was approved. Once we acquired the permits required, we moved forward with the construction of the sign. We wanted to make sure it would be bright and easy to see, even at night. Using aluminum to construct the sign, we painted it white so that it would naturally illuminate at night by the light of the moon and surrounding lights.
Before we could install the new monument, we had to remove the old brick pillars that were in its place. Our installation team took care of the demolition and we then laid a concrete footing and bed with new posts to support the 45” tall by 96” wide sign. Once it cured, we installed the sign. We chose acrylic letters that would endure the outdoor elements. We painted them the appropriate Pantone colors and stud mounted them flush to the face of the monument. This will provide a durable long lasting sign for years to come.
The church loved being part of the process as we let them know where we were at with each new stage of the design, fabrication and installation process. We were thankful to be able to help Las Flores Church create a beautiful sign that will stand in their community and help direct people to their facilities. Churches are a big part of every community, often a place where people find resources and help during times of need and / or disaster.
