Our client in Carlsbad, Tear Film, needed their existing monument sign updated. It was an exciting project for our North Coast Signs team, as we worked to change an arched sign to a flat top, with bottom mounted dimensional numbers. It also required approval from several parties, which we worked to secure. This was a big job that came out with perfect results.

Tear Film is an emerging company, in the early stages of offering eye health solutions to its clients. The company wanted a modern, fresh update to the old monument sign, more reflective of a modern company like themselves. We were excited to play a role in their branding update, and worked to create a custom building sign for Tear Film at the same time.

Custom Monument Retrofit[/caption]
The monument retrofit required landlord approval, as well as HOA approval with the Carlsbad Research Center. That required preparation of necessary documents, the application, and filing, as well as a 30 day review, all of which we handled on a timeline that allowed for the review. We also secured permitting through the City of Carlsbad, including preparation of documents, the application, and filing as well. We offer these logistical services to all of our clients, only adding the actual cost of fees to the final invoice.
When it came time for the approved retrofit we worked with a concrete cutter to remove the top portion of the monument structure, refinishing the stucco, leveling the top and painting. We removed four existing glass tenant panels and replaced them with three new, larger, 1/4” thick panels with black cut vinyl lettering on the second surface of glass. We also installed a new brushed aluminum top shelf, new brushed aluminum dimensional letters, and 1” thick acrylic address numbers. We reused the existing stand-offs to save our clients some money within their budget, and touched up the base structure.

Overall, the new monument looks great, without having to start from scratch. Our client made the most of their resources by reusing the existing monument and retrofitting, and we worked hard to create a sign that looked great.
