La Costa Canyon High School is a Carlsbad school known for its competitive athletics program. Administrators wanted to inspire its current and future athletes, to show just what is possible if students stick with their hard work on and off the field. They connected with us, asking for a large vinyl banner featuring a former student and well-known athlete.

Mickey Moniak, the number one Phillies pick in 2016, attended La Costa Canyon High School, hitting .461 with two home runs and 27 runs batted in as a sophomore, and .426 with a 1.062 on base plus slugging as a junior. As a senior, he batted .476 with seven home runs and 46 runs batted in. He’s a legend to La Costa Canyon, and the school wanted his achievements highlighted where all could be inspired to reach for their dreams, too.

We created a large vinyl banner to hang in the outfield, sizing it at eight feet by 20 feet. Knowing that the Moniak banner was going to be strung up on the right field power alley fence, we focused on creating a heavy duty, quality sign that would withstand the elements and last through the years, inspiring generations of students. We custom printed the banner using 13 oz vinyl, with reinforced webbing in the hems, and grommets spaced 12 inches apart on the center. We used a professional photo from Moniak’s high school baseball days, and created a design that would show current students and the community what La Costa Canyon has to offer its students and athletes.

Our process is collaborative for each client, meaning we start each project by consulting with staff to fully understand their needs. In this case, we knew we had to create a banner that had a compelling design, a classic look, and longevity, to make the most of the school’s investment and to keep the image on-point even as current students graduate and new classes come in. Our quote included the artwork, design, proofs, and the set-up of the vinyl banner at the school.
