Recently, we were contacted by West Inns & Suites Hotel because they needed some ADA signs installed. Take a quick look at the pictures in this article to see the two different signs that we made for them.
The first sign that we made was a custom warning sign. It is 10” x 13” and is made from acrylic and vinyl. It features a 3/16″ thick transparent green acrylic layer on the bottom, with cut vinyl graphics and lettering applied. Next it features a top layer of 3/16” thick P95 back-painted Pantone Color. The sign was then assembled with screws on the sides which matched the existing ADA signs.
The second sign, also shown in this article, is a library and breakfast room sign that is 7.5″ x 7.5″ in size. The bottom layer is 1/4″ thick transparent green acrylic with a top layer of 1/4″ thick P95 back-painted Pantone Color. There is tactile lettering with braille in order to comply with ADA requirements.
ADA stands for Americans with Disabilities Act, which was a piece of legislation put into law back in the early 1990s that requires businesses and cities to post necessary signage in public places for handicapped and disabled people. Any business that is not ADA compliant can receive a fine from the government of up to or not exceeding $50,000.
ADA signs can be made from a variety of materials depending on the look and style that the business is trying to achieve. Basic ADA signs can be made from very inexpensive materials, so it’s worth the investment to get your business ADA compliant instead of having to pay a hefty fine from the government.
We did face one challenge on this project. The challenge was that we needed to match the new ADA signs, which we created, with the existing ADA signs that were already installed in the building. The ADA signs that we made had to match the exact colors of the acrylic, vinyl and Pantone colors. The results turned out great, and we were able to match the existing ADA signs perfectly, and our client is very happy.
