PROJECT: ‘Food Truck’ Graphics Wrap for Fox ADHD at Comi-Con in San Diego, CA
We received a call from a local pizza restaurant, Flippin Pizza, in Carlsbad, CA, who wanted to wrap their catering truck. The catch was, though, that the catering truck was already wrapped, and they wanted the new wrap to be temporary, leaving the current wrap undamaged after removal.
The reason they wanted a temporary wrap, to be removed after only 4 days, was they were attending the recent Comic-Con event in San Diego. FOX ADHD contacted them because they wanted to use their pizza truck (catering truck), with their own wrap, to promote the Pizza Man comic and the Pizza Man characters. Their plan was to wrap the pizza truck and have a ‘pizza party,’ where they would be handing out free pizza to attendees of the Comic-Con event.
What’s Comi-Con?
People from all over the nation travel to San Diego, CA, annually, to enjoy 4 days of comic super heroes and fun! And free pizza!
It’s a huge event!
We coordinated with Civic Entertainment, in New York (who handles event publicity for FOX), and their design team, to create a truly eye-catching wrap. You can see in the images in this article that each side of the truck was a different color and schematic.
Challenges:
One challenge on this project was every side was different. We had to take the artwork and make it fit to a template, by sizing and adjusting it, to get it ready for printing on the large format printer. The tricky part is printing out panels of printed material, and then tiling them together so they line up perfectly.
Another challenge we faced was the current wrap is over 5 years old, which is about the typical life of a wrap. S0 we had to make sure that we could apply the wrap, and remove it, without doing any (further) damage to the existing wrap.
They key here was researching the right material to use, with an adhesive that would easily remove after 4 days, yet still look awesome for the duration of the event. We used 3M removal cast vinyl with cast over-laminate.
In the end, it came out extraordinary! After the event, we took it all off on Monday, July 22, and the wrap underneath was preserved, as planned. When they saw the finished wrap in person, they were amazed and posted videos on Youtube and Facebook. Here’s a link to the Youtube video:
