Did you know that water leaks in homes can happen commonly in certain areas more than others? Your reaction matters a lot in containing the water damage these leaks can cause. If you are aware of this fact, it can allow you to be more prepared for these common leaks in your home. So, let’s take a closer look at some of the most common leaks that can happen in a home:
  1. Tub or Shower Leaks
This happens because of faulty seals that allow the tub to start leaking water. In many cases, people might not even notice how much water is accumulating on their bathroom floor. Over time, this can cause water damage to the surroundings and also seep into the floor. In the worst cases, you will have to remodel your bathroom completely because of the water damage that has happened.
  1. Faucet Leaks
A leaky faucet doesn’t cause a lot of water damage but it does create wastage. Additionally, leaky faucets can also cause rust, water mineral buildup or even cause water damage. This only happens if the water is collecting on the countertop but don’t let that happen to you. If you see the faucet is leaking, get it fixed as quickly as possible.
  1. Toilet Area
Toilets can leak in two ways – either internally or by the seal. Toilets that leak by the seal will flood dirty water on the floors which will cause mold to grow. It’s also extremely unhygienic for your bathroom floor and should be corrected as soon as possible to prevent the dirty water from seeping into the floor. Internal toilet leaks allow water to just drain down from the tank immediately. It’s only noticeable through the water bill but easy to fix once you catch it.
  1. Sink Pipes
The pipes of your sinks in the bathroom or the kitchen can also leak. These are also tricky to catch as sink pipes are usually hidden behind sink cabinet doors. This also creates the perfect, humid and dark environment for mold to grow. If you don’t check the pipes regularly, this is a leak that can go undetected and cause severe damage.
  1. Garbage Disposal
Garbage disposals can break down, even after years of regular use. Poor cleanup or improper use can contribute to it leaking. This leak is easy to notice though, thanks to the foul stench it gives. However, leave it for too long and you can cause water damage as well as mold growth in your cabinet area. These are some of the most common areas where you can get leaks in your home. It’s a good idea to be vigilant and check on them once or twice a year to ensure they are healthy. Summary Leaks in a home can happen at any time but the kitchen and bathroom are two spots where they happen frequently. Knowing where they happen can allow you to be prepared to fix the leak as soon as possible. It is also a good idea to have professional help available to deal with water damage, mold growth or other issues. For more information about our services, visit our website.
