When a fire is put out, our team is essentially dealing with several different types of losses. One set of damage from the fire, another from its heat, another from the related soot, and then another from whatever was used to extinguish the flames. In many fire losses, there are investigations that need to be conducted prior to work being allowed to begin. This can take a few hours or several weeks depending on what occurred. Throughout that time the structure may have water damage and can accumulate mold growth. At that point the loss is about as bad as it can get but not to fear – our team has years of experience handling losses such as these and we are well equipped to handle the job!
Once we are permitted to go onsite, our team may need to complete temporary repairs to the structure to keep weather, insects and animals from intruding. We will also work to pack out your belongings safely and bring them back to our facility to restore them back to normal as well as remove any damaged debris that cannot be salvaged and attempt a mitigation cleaning to prevent the acidic soot from causing further damage to fixtures or contents.
During that time, our team will also be working to set up temporary power in order to use our equipment onsite. Our technicians will need to use a variety of power tools to remove charred, or soiled materials such as drywall, flooring, cabinets, etc. In order to restore the air-quality of the dwelling our team will place air-scrubbers in the affected areas. If necessary, drying and deodorizing equipment will be placed as well. In large fires, mitigation can often take 1-2 weeks of work to get things removed, cleaned, dry and odor free so that repairs can begin. Our team can then refer you to local and trusted general contractors who can assist from there.
