While these are great features to have in a vehicle, you’ll want to stop or slow down at some point so brakes are pretty important. We’ll cover both what to look and listen for as well as what to do about issues with your Mini Cooper brakes. Brake systems and the Mini Cooper The brake system for a vehicle like the Mini Cooper is fairly simple, but it’s also delicate. When your foot applies pressure to the brake pedal, you are telling a cylinder of brake fluid within the engine compartment to create pressure to apply to the rotor and brake pad, which then physically contacts part of the axle with the right amount of force, hopefully, to slow your vehicle down over the distance you require. The biggest breaking points within your brake system are definitely the brake pads and rotors because they are not intended to last the entire length of your vehicle. So, how do you know if you have a problem? Detecting brake problems in your Mini Cooper The good news about brake problems and just about any car including the Mini Cooper are that they aren’t very subtle. The other news is that once you know you have a problem, you’ll want to get it taken care of right away. One of the first signs is having a harder time slowing down than you used to, under normal conditions, of course. The other is a high-pitched squeal when you slow down. Brake manufacturers design their products with a pin which causes an annoying squeal when you apply the brakes. When you hear the squeal, make an appointment or come right away and we’ll get new brake pads on your Mini Cooper right away. You can develop an additional problem if you don’t, unfortunately. Brakes are held in place and overall helped by equipment called a rotor. If you completely wear out your brake pads, you’ll also put some serious wear on your rotor too which costs additional money. We suggest getting your brakes looked at right away. Preventing Brake Problems on your Mini Cooper The best way to prevent vehicle issues in general? Regular maintenance. We would love to develop a relationship with you and see you a couple of times per year for regular maintenance as prescribed by your Mini Cooper.  Believe it or not, regular maintenance will go a long way to detecting brake problems and a host of other issues that you’ll get a smaller bill and far less inconvenience for than a vehicle breakdown.
