Why Ford Explorer Drivers Need Vehicle Service

Why Service is Vital for Ford Explorers

There are a few reasons why servicing is so important for the Ford Explorer. First, this SUV is designed to be tough and durable. It can handle a lot of wear and tear but needs to be serviced regularly.

Second, the Ford Explorer is a large vehicle. It has many moving parts, which means there are more opportunities for something to go wrong. Keeping up with regular servicing means fewer potential problems with the SUV.

When to Schedule Service

The best way to avoid major issues with a Ford Explorer is to schedule service at the first sign of trouble. If any strange noises or vibrations are noticed, it’s time to take the SUV for a checkup.

Similarly, any changes in how the Explorer is handling means it’s time for service. Catching problems early makes it easy to avoid more serious and costly repairs down the road.

Service Schedule for Ford Explorers

Ford Explorers can remain in good condition for years when the recommended service schedule is followed. This schedule is designed specifically for this SUV and outlines the different types of service the vehicle will need at different intervals.

7,500 Miles

Ford Motor Company suggests changing the oil every 7,500 miles or six months. The oil filter also needs to be replaced at this time. The dashboard indicator will let the driver know when it’s time, but as a rule of thumb, try to do so every 12 months. Tire rotation should also be performed at this time.

10,000 Miles

After the 10,000-mile mark, it’s time for more than just an oil change. The Ford Explorer will need a full inspection, and parts like the air filter and brakes may need to be replaced.

It’s also a good idea to have the battery checked at this point. Batteries typically last between three and five years, but they can die sooner if not properly maintained.

20,000 Miles

By the 20,000-mile mark of the things listed above should be done, plus a few more:

  • Inspecting the cooling system
  • Inspecting the complete exhaust system
  • Inspecting the complete brake system and parking brake system.

It’s also a good idea to have the throttle body serviced. This component can get dirty over time, which can cause problems with the SUV’s performance.

30,000 Miles

At 30,000 miles, it’s time for another oil change and full inspection. Also, have the brakes checked and the fluids topped off. Other important services include:

  • Inspecting the air conditioning system
  • Inspecting the complete suspension system
  • Replacing the spark plugs (if the Explorer has a V6 or V8 engine)

100,000 Miles

At the 100,000-mile mark, the Ford Explorer will need all the above services plus a few extras. The timing belt should be replaced at this point, as well as power steering fluid. Also, the fuel injectors should be cleaned or replaced.

It’s also a good idea to have the transmission serviced. This is a complex component and keeping it in good working condition is important.
