Don’t you find it irritating when your given a set of directions, and no matter how good they are, you find nothing around that has identifying markings on it? The houses are blank, shoot, even the mailboxes have nothing on them. Imagine if you were an EMS driver, and you needed immidiate help. Imagine them driving right by your house because they couldn’t find you, and something devastating happens because of that added time.
It’s not far from the truth. It happened to me. The car had a power steering leak, and that night, the car caught fire while I was driving home. I was definitely in a panic when I saw the small fire in the bottom of the engine compartment. I had my cell phone in my right ear, trying to get ahold of 911, and me blowing like crazy on the engine compartment (learned how dangerous that was later), to keep the flames small and controlled…and me frantically looking for a physical address…ANYWHERE! Funny thing was, I was stranded directly in front of a Taco Bell.
I looked, and looked, but they did not put their address on the building. I was shocked at that. Long story short, a police officer just happened to be driving by, he stopped and put the fire out with a bottle of water. His presence had nothing to do with my 911 phone call, he was at the right place at the right time.
I later saw the Taco Bell address. Oh yes, it was displayed. Unfortunately, their landscapers planted shrubs right in front of it, covering it up 100%. It was the only address on the premises.
The reason I’m telling this story is simple. You should go outside your home or business, take a good look, and be sure your premises can be identified with visible numbers on both the mailbox and the building.
