What is a proof, and do you need one?

A proof is a trial version of the final product.  A proof is a way of ensuring that we have set your type, logo and images properly.  It is a way of ensuring that you will be happy with the final product before it is produced.  Typically, we will produce a proof which will be sent to you online for your review and comment or approval.

 

A proof is a very important part of our business.  Like every business we employ people.  And though our people are qualified and experienced, they are still human beings and not perfect.  Your approval of the final proof is assurance that you have looked over every aspect of the work and approve it as accurate.  It benefits everyone if errors are caught before the job is completed and delivered.

 

Even if you supply print-ready-art, the proofing process is still required.  We completed a project consisting of partially wrapping a shuttle bus for an advertising agency..  The images on both sides of the shuttle bus were mirror images of each other.  What was missed in the file that was given to us was the fact that the name of the resort on the player’s golf shirt was mirror imaged on one side.  Through the proofing process, we caught that human error and corrected it for our client.

 

When you review a proof, always, always look for the following:

•  Is the spelling correct?
• Is the grammar correct?
• Is the contact information correct?
• Is the color correct?
• Are the fonts correctt?
• Is the layout correctt?
• Does it look good?

 Remember, taking the time to correctly review a proof will always be quicker than having to redo a job.
