Brake Problems Associated with the BMW 7 Series

BMW cars are known for their powerful engines and high performance. These powerful engines require an equally efficient and complex braking system to ensure the safety of the driver and the car, even in intense situations. Unfortunately, there have been numerous reports of problems with their braking systems. The majority of the problems arise after many years of using the vehicle, however. Some of them are the result of technical issues within the BMW’s complex braking system. Here, we will discuss some common problems BMW 7 owners might face with their cars.

ABS Malfunction

The ABS, or Anti-lock Braking System, in the BMW 7 Series is the system which prevents the wheels from locking up while doing a hard brake. If this system malfunctions, you might experience unusual brake pedal behavior. An illuminated warning light, usually in the form of "ABS", on the dashboard is also an indication of an ABS system malfunction. It is important to have your vehicle inspected by a qualified engineer the moment you notice any of these signs.

Brake Pulling

This occurs when your car tilts or pulls to one side, usually when you apply the brakes. Uneven brake pad wear, where one side of the brake pad wears faster than the other, is a common cause. Other causes could be an imbalance of brake fluid or a sticking caliper. These problems don’t exactly have a solution, and you will most likely be required to replace the brake pads to ensure a safe drive for your vehicle and prevent more damage.

Ineffective Brake Pads

Brakes become less effective over time; this is usually as a result of worn-out brake pads or some other faulty component in the braking system. Signs of ineffective brakes include a softer brake pedal or a longer braking distance. Ineffective brakes could also be caused by other things, this is why it is important to have your vehicle inspected and serviced by a qualified mechanic to accurately determine and resolve any issues.

What Causes These Problems?

As aforementioned, these problems develop over time as you use the vehicle. Brake pads normally last about 3 to 5 years, or after 30,000 to 70,000 miles of driving. These are just estimated figures, and the actual lifespan of your brake pads depends on factors like driving behavior, road conditions, and the quality of the brake pads themselves. However, preventive measures like regular brake maintenance and inspections or only purchasing quality brake pads will prevent these problems in the long run. You should also learn about efficient driving and braking practices, which help lengthen the lifespan of your brakes.

What Should I Do When I Notice These Problems on My BMW 7 Series

The obvious thing to do is to take the vehicle to an auto repair shop, preferably one that is reliable and has good experience attending to BMW 7 Series vehicles. You could also make findings online about common problems other owners might have experienced and how they were resolved.
