Here's something many drivers don't know about their cars. With the engine running, the alternator powers your electrical components, such as the radio and blower fan. The battery's function is to start the engine. Batteries are sometimes replaced when it is a bad alternator causing the problem, and alternators are sometimes replaced when the problem is a bad battery. We have master mechanics who understand that voltage is electromotive force and current is the flow of electricity in a circuit. They will find the problematic component and replace only that part. The dashboard battery indicator tells you the vehicle's charging system has an issue. A voltage above the rated voltage is sent through the battery to charge the battery. Your car's battery is rated at 12.5 volts, the alternator is rated at 14.5 volts. The battery light illuminates when the voltage is less than 13.5 volts. So, if you have a voltmeter among your car's instruments, it should read 12.5 when the engine is off and 14.5 with the engine running. So why is the dashboard battery light important? If you see the light on while driving, the engine will continue to run and get you to your destination. But with an inoperative alternator the battery will run down and lack the power to start the engine. You will be stuck where you shut the engine off. A car that won't start is usually why vehicles show up at our shop for a battery replacement. In that scenario, you may have a battery that has seen better days. But here are some other reasons for having your electrical system looked at:
  • Slow cranking when you start your vehicle
  • Clicking noises when turning the key
  • Interior lights dim when you turn the key to "on."
These symptoms can lead us to several possibilities. The starter, battery, or alternator could have perished. There could be a bad ground wire for a component. The battery may be dead because a draw ran down the battery. Our mechanic will find the cause instead of replacing parts until the problem is fixed. We will get you on the road with a dependable vehicle at the right price. If you need a new battery, we can provide you with the following battery service:
  • a battery that will handle all your vehicle’s requirements
  • installation included
  • 3-year warranty
  • included disposal and recycling of your old battery
  • expert advice on what type of battery to install
