The Cadillac is such an iconic car for America. But even the Mona Lisa needs to be taken care of sometimes. It doesn’t matter if it’s a windshield wiper making too much noise or an engine that is literally on fire: We can fix it.

But this is the age of information. You don’t need to and don’t want to bring your Cadillac in unless you really need to. So, we have put together a handy guide detailing the three most common reasons that Cadillacs come into the repair shop for a tune up.

When Should You See a Cadillac Repair Specialist?

  1. Your Check Engine Light is On

One might look at this tip and think, “Oh yeah, well obviously.” But we are all guilty of procrastinating responding to a check engine light. The reason is that it seems to just come on so easily. That, like many parts of a car’s engineering, is by design after all.

Check engine lights are made to respond to sensors detecting misalignments, corrosion, damage, abnormal heat, and even sensors that just are not responding. Some of these might not be a disaster in any other part of the car, but they can seriously threaten your engine.

  1. High Pitched Noises

This is a classic Cadillac problem, but like frequent check engine lights it is actually there by design. The cause is almost certainly your serpentine belt. This is a critical piece of the engine’s function that moves rapidly inside your car. And when it breaks, it makes a horrible noise.

This noise cannot be described. It is piercing and offensive to the senses. That is because it wants you to know that something is wrong so that you can get the part replaced.

  1. Shuddering When Stopping

Many cars are developing this problem as engine parts become more efficient, as it is a result of corners being cut in the design of transmissions. The transmission controls your car’s ability to shift gears. This applies as much to automatic cars as it does to manual cars.

Moreso, in fact, as the transmission of automatic cars are more sensitive than manuals. This is why the problem arises when you stop; since you are downshifting from one gear to another so rapidly, there is a pause where the car’s engine is slowing down its motion faster than it is slowing down its combustion reaction. Over time, this can damage the car.
