Over the past few weeks we’ve had numerous requests from business about compliant signage. Due to Illinois’ new Firearm Concealed Carry Act, these businesses are getting a head start and ordering large quantities of “firearms prohibited” signs. According to the Illinois State Police Website: “Owners of any statutorily prohibited area or private property, excluding residences, where the owner prohibits the carrying of firearms must clearly and conspicuously post the Illinois State Police approved sign, in accordance with 430 ILCS 66/1, at the entrance of the building, premises or real property”. We want to ensure that you follow every one of the new regulations; so due to the legality of this type of job, it is important that those seeking signage for conceal and carry purposes should contact experts.
If you’re looking to put your own creative spin on this type of sign, not much can be changed about the court-approved designs; they must all display the the same, uniform graphic and scale to four inches by six inches. The graphic must have a completely white background with a black silhouette of a handgun and a red circle and slash through it. The only text permitted on the design is the phrase “Pursuant to Illinois Code 430 ILCS 66/1”. If you are in need of a conceal and carry sign larger than this, the State Police allow the graphic to be scaled up if the premises requires it.
